What You Appear to Be
Lauren Christine Gleason

According to Machiavelli (see the applicable quote to the left) a person can be seen as one of two things: "what you appear to be" and "what you are." My purpose, when you visit this webpage, is to show you both aspects of myself. Consider this webpage as a mental notebook for all of my thoughts and discoveries that do not require prose to explain. Current Passion: Graduate School
(changes regularly)

Nothing like "Airplane!" to lift your spirits. On Wednesday night Crystal and I were watching it on Comedy Central and I remembered how funny that movie is. Here are a couple of quotes my friends from high school (aka Kathe, Danny, Meghan, Jennifer, etc.) will appreciate.

1) "Bad news, the fog is getting thicker." "And Leon is getting LARGER!"
2) "We're going to the tower." "The tower! The tower! RAPUNZEL!"

I am trying to find a new place to put my pictures on the web. Here is what I have so far: Lauren's PictureTrail Page. Check it out and see what you think. I am also toying with Yahoo! Pictures and some other sites. We'll see how it turns out.

Happy Thanksgiving! My mom and I went to the Disneyland Hotel for dinner and she took pictures of me with several Disney characters. More details to come.

I'm back from Las Vegas and it was a great trip. I lost fifteen dollars playing blackjack but that's no big deal. More details to come.

The next week is going to be very busy for me. I'm going to Las Vegas with Dan tomorrow and my mom is arriving for a Thanksgiving visit on Tuesday. Hopefully I will get a chance to write about these happenings in a timely matter so that I can share my experiences with anyone who is interested in them.

Go see "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." Even if you haven't read the book, go see the movie. I promise it'll be worth the price of admission and the time you spend waiting in line to get into the theater. Also you'll get to see full-length previews for "Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones" and "Fellowship of the Ring." Incredible.

Crazy weekend. Several good things have happened, however, to offset the frustrating ones. I have some beautiful flowers on my dresser (courtesy of Dan) and I finalized all of the plans for my mom's Thanksgiving visit. At the moment a marathon in Long Beach is keeping me from going to the grocery store but relaxing at home isn't half bad.

It rained today. An unusual event in Southern California. My groceries got pretty wet this morning because the last thing I thought about having with me was an umbrella.

I just posted a diary entry that describes my visits to UCLA, USC, and Cal Tech. There will be more discussion to come on the subject of graduate school since I am so preoccupied with it recently. But now it's time to forget about it and get some sleep.

Check out the USGS Earthquake webpage. There has been quite a lot of seismic activity recently in southern California and no one knows how to feel about it.
